Unmissable Places in the Algarve - Vol I

Best places in Algarve

Faro

If you're coming from another country, you'll likely arrive at Faro International Airport. Faro is the largest city in the Algarve and is located in the heart of the region, making it a perfect place to rent a car. As a recommendation, don't miss the chance to visit the famous Chapel of Bones. The ossuary is located in the lovely Nossa Senhora do Carmo, from the 18th century. Inside the church, follow the signs to a small courtyard where the chapel is situated. Every surface of the chapel is covered with bones and skulls of monks who worked in a nearby monastery.

Albufeira

To the west, the first stop should be Albufeira, one of the liveliest and most famous beach regions in the Algarve. You can't wish for better, cleaner, or wider beaches that are also so suitable for families. After a swim, take a stroll through the charming historic center, full of bars and restaurants, colorful buildings, and shops, taking the opportunity to rest and enjoy the best this beautiful city has to offer.

Carvoeiro and Portimão

The Algarve coast is the highlight of this romantic former fishing village turned tourist destination. The city is formed on the steep cliffs of the red sea, with some small beaches as an extra detail. You can descend the steps if you want, and we recommend you do it calmly, as the slope of this cliff makes the fall something far from small. Further west is Portimão: Praia da Rocha is perhaps the most photographed location. In addition to a ruined castle, the city has a colorful history of pirates and naval wars, but little remains today to remind visitors of that time.

Lagos

Unlike the rest of the tour, which focused on the beautiful coast, Lagos is rich in history and has many monuments to commemorate it. It's worth visiting the 17th-century Forte da Bandeira, the Church of Santo Antônio, and the Slave Market, Europe's first slave market. Enjoy the beautiful waterfront and charming streets as you take a walk through the city center; we guarantee you won't regret it.
